Inspired by the idea of sharing the faith through the good, the true, and the beautiful, Hugh has since taught, performed, and written music as a Catholic artist. Portrait of Nicholas De Castro

Nicholas De Castro is a Catholic visual artist, youth minister, and singer-songwriter based in North York, Toronto. He is completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Education at York University while serving in parish and chaplaincy ministry. A profound encounter with Christ in the Eucharist during a high school retreat shaped his understanding of beauty as not merely an idea, but a person: Jesus Christ. Rooted in prayer and his experience in ministry, Nicholas’s artwork reflects the movements of his heart and the ways he encounters God at work in his life. Although trained as a painter, he has recently developed a strong interest in printmaking. Through his art, Nicholas seeks to glorify God and draw others toward heaven.

Portrait of Ikranrin (IJ) Makan

Ikranrin (IJ) Makan is a Catholic iconographer based in Ottawa. He creates oil paintings on canvas and wood panels for private devotion and religious communities. He holds a master’s degree in Philosophy and a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Biblical Studies, and Theology. A convert to Catholicism, IJ was drawn to the Church in part through icons, in which he encountered philosophy, theology, and art united as a single vocation. He began painting icons in 2024 and is largely self-taught, having immersed himself in the history, theology, and techniques of the tradition. His work reflects the mystery of the Incarnation and explores the icon as a threshold between the visible and the invisible.
